HookC Defeats Quinnipiac at Elliot
STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (12-15) racked up 16 hits and had 10 stolen bases in a 9-3 victory against Quinnipiac (13-13-1) on Tuesday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.
Six Huskies registered multi-hit performances in the winning effort while the Huskies 10 stolen bases were the most for UConn since stealing eight against Georgetown in 2010.
Caleb Shpur had a three-hit day, walked twice, scored two runs and stole three bases in a game for the second time this season.
UConn posted a three-spot in the first inning after a pair of sacrifice flies from Grant MacArthur and Beau Root. Sam Biller capped the frame with an RBI single.
In the third, the Huskies pushed the lead to 7-0 with the help of an RBI double from Aidan Dougherty and two-run single for Ryan Daniels.
Daniels finished the day with three hits, two walks, two stolen bases and a pair of runs scored.
Bryan Padilla recorded his third-straight multi-hit game that featured an RBI single.
UConn starting pitcher Sean Finn pitched a career-high 3.0 shutout innings to earn his second win of the year.
LHP Sam Hutchinson tossed a scoreless frame while Greg Shaw III pitched 2.0 shutout innings to close the game out.
Next up, the Huskies travel to Creighton to face the Bluejays in a three-game series in BIG EAST play.
