UConn BSB Travels to Omaha

Game Notes

OMAHA - The UConn baseball team (12-15, 1-2 BIG EAST) resumes BIG EAST play with a three-game series at Creighton (17-7, 0-0 BIG EAST) beginning Friday, April 4 at 7 p.m. ET. Game two will start at 3 p.m. ET and the series finale will be 1 p.m ET. All three games will be streamed on video on FloSports and can be heard on MIXLR.

The weekend will be the eighth-straight weekend that the Huskies have been on the road. It is the longest stretch to begin a season in program history. After this weekend, UConn will be the only Division I team in the country that hasn't played a home weekend series/tournament this season.

BIG EAST Streak Snapped... The Huskies lost its BIG EAST opening series against Xavier last weekend in Cincinnati. It snapped a 14-series winning streak for the Huskies dating back to the 2022 regular season finale at Georgetown that the Hoyas swept.

Since rejoining the BIG EAST in 2021 the Huskies have won 24 of the 27 series that they have played with a four-game series split at Xavier in 2021, a sweep at Georgetown in 2022 and the recent two of three the Huskies dropped at Xavier in 2025.

Huskies and Bluejays... UConn is 9-2 all-time against Creighton with the Huskies winning all three series the teams have played. Last year, the Huskies won two-of-three in Storrs with the Bluejays taking the finale.

The only trip the Huskies have made to Omaha to face Creighton, the Huskies dropeed the series opener and then won the next two games to clinch the 2023 BIG EAST regular season crown.

No Fly Zone... CF Caleb Shpur has been one of the best CF's in the country according to defensive runs saved. The East Canaan, CT native is eighth amongst CF's with 6.72 defensive runs saved this season.

The UConn outfielder also leads the team with 16 stolen bases after stealing 26 bases a year ago. At the plate, Shpur is starting to heat up, hitting .306 with a triple, homer and five runs batted in.

Cooke Turning It Around... Ian Cooke has struggled to start his 2025 campaign but the 2024 BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year has looked strong his last two appearances out of the bullpen. The New Milford, Conn. native has pitched 7.1 innings, allowed zero earned runs, walked zero and struck out 12 batters. Cooke closed out the middle game of the series at Xavier with 3.0 shutout innings to earn his first save of the year. The senior has logged 199.0 career innings and recorded 15 wins on the mound for the Huskies. He currently has 227 strikeouts, ranking sixth in program history.
