Huskies Blank Friars for Sixth-Straight Win

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's tennis team ripped off their sixth-straight win on Friday afternoon, blanking BIG EAST foe Providence, 7-0, in their first match outdoors at home this spring on the UConn Tennis Courts on campus.  

The Huskies improved to 12-2 overall in dual match play and remain unbeaten against BIG EAST teams at 6-0.

UConn swept all three matches in doubles play to open the afternoon and set the tone for the day.  The combo of senior Olivia Wright (Glen Allen, VA) and sophomore Victoria Matos (Coram, NY) opened with a 6-1 win at the No. 1 doubles spot. The teams of senior Isabel Petri Bere (Lund, Sweden) and freshman Chloe Lomans (Netherlands) at No. 2 and junior Cameron Didion (Orlando, FL) and sophomore Isabella Asenov (Vancouver, B.C.) at No. 3 both cruised to 6-0 wins.

In singles action, Didon notched her sixth-straight victory, beating Elise Leik at No. 4, 6-4 and 6-3, to improve to 12-3 on the season. Lomans won her team-leading 16th singles match of the season, besting Lauren Carson at No. 5, 6-1 and 6-0. She ahs won three-straight and is now 16-4 on the season. Wright took home her fourth-straight win to improve to 9-4 when playing at No. 1 singles this season. She beat PC's top player, Flora Eidson, 6-4 and 6-1.

Petri-Bere won at No. 2 over Camila Barrera, 6-0 and 6-1 and Matos won her No. 3 singles match over Mae Abreu, 6-1 and 6-2. Asenov was a winner at No.. 6, beating Leena Kuittinen, 6-1 and 6-1, making it a clean sweep on the afternoon.

The Huskies jump right back in to action on Sunday, March 30 as they host the Butler Bulldogs in a BIG EAST match on the UConn Tennis Courts at 11 am.  The Huskies will be looking to deliver Head Coach Glenn Marshall his 500th victory on Sunday.
