Softball Falls in Game one to Villanova
STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team lost to the Villanova Wildcats, 3-1 on Friday afternoon at Burrill Family Field.
Hallie Siems made her 26th start of the season for the Huskies. She went 5.1 innings in the circle giving up three runs on only three hits, with nine strikeouts. The senior was dominant through the first three innings retiring nine of the first ten batters she faced with seven retired via the strikeout.
UConn scored the game's first run on the base paths in the bottom of the second inning. The Huskies executed a double steal to perfection as Haley Coupal stole second base, and pinch runner Rayah Snyder took off from third base to home plate on the throw down to second base.
Villanova took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning on a two run single by Brooklyn Ostrowski.
The Wildcats extended their lead to 3-1 in the top of the fifth off a solo home run by Tess Cites.
Meghan O'Neil came on in relief for Siems in the middle of the sixth inning with two runners on and only one out. O'Neil got the Huskies out of the jam, retiring both batters she faced in the inning. O'Neil finished out the game in the circle for the Huskies, retiring five of the six batters she faced, adding four strikeouts.

UConn will look to even up the series tomorrow, Saturday, April 27 against Villanova. The game will be televised on FS1.
