Alex Heard Named BIG EAST Golfer of the Week
STORRS, Conn. - UConn sophomore Alex Heard (Boca Raton, FL) has been named the BIG EAST Golfer of the Week announced by the league office on Monday. Heard garners his first career weekly conference honor after a stellar performance at the Dorado Beach Collegiate tournament.
Heard turned in the best performance of the season and of his career as well as his highest finish. The sophomore was 9-under for the tournament to tie for second place, recording his first career top five finish on the leaderboard. Heard shot an opening round 67 (-5) on Sunday, matching the lowest round of the season of his career. He came back with a 71 on Monday and a 68 on Tuesday to close out the tournament and post a score of 207, his lowest tournament score in his two seasons in Storrs. Over the three rounds Heard ranked third among all 101 players in field on the course's par 5's, playing to a -5 (4.25 avg) score. He finished the tournament ranked sixth in the field with 15 total birdies.
The sophomore and the rest of the Huskies are currently competing at the ECU Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday at Brook Valley CC in Greenville, North Carolina.
