Rome Named Defensive Player of the Week, Werkmeister Named to Honor Roll
STORRS, Conn. - UConn Volleyball players Audrey Rome and Emma Werkmeister were recognized by the BIG EAST Conference on Monday. Rome was named defensive player of the week, while Werkmeister was named to the weekly honor roll.
Rome recored 18 total blocks, four solo, (1.38/set) on top of 30 kills (2.31/set) as UConn stayed undefeated, as they defeated Colgate, Stony Brook, and Buffalo on consecutive days. The redshirt sophomore from Sandwich, Illinois had a breakout performance in a 3-1 victory over Buffalo with a match-best 10 total blocks, three of which were solo stops. Rome also had the highest attack % in the standout showing against Buffalo (.667).
Werkmeister registered 58 kills (4.46/set), 31 digs (3.28/set), and eight aces on .295 hitting, also adding eight total blocks as UConn went 3-0 on the week. In a reverse sweep victory over Colgate, the junior set a career-best with 29 kills. Werkmeister is second in the conference with 103 total kills (4.29/set), and second in service aces/set (0.62)
