MSOC Falls to No. 19 Georgetown

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team lost to the Georgetown Hoyas, 1-0 on Saturday night at Morrone Stadium.

UConn dominated the possession early in the match, recording four shots in the first 20 minutes.

Junior forward Eli Conway had the Huskies best chance of the half with a shot from 15 yards out in the 18thminute, but his effort was saved by Hoyas goalkeeper Tenzing Manske.

Georgetown countered the Huskies offensive pressure, scoring the game's lone goal off a counterattack in the 22nd minute. Matthew Van Horn put the Hoyas in front, scoring his fourth goal of the season.

UConn went into the half down a goal with shots even six a piece.

The second half was a stalemate with both teams trying to break down the other's defense. UConn's best chance of the half came in the 61st minute as redshirt-freshman Sabri Hanni rocketed a shot from ten yards out but could not get his shot on target.

"The beginning of the game we started so well, once they got that goal it just took the air out of us," said head coach Chris Gbandi. "In these kinds of games, somebody needs to make a play and obviously Georgetown was able to make that play today, and we just weren't able to."
