WSOC Loses 2-1 vs. Butler

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (8-4-3, 2-3-2 BIG EAST) lost 2-1 against Butler (6-4-3, 2-2-2 BIG EAST) on Thursday night at Morrone Stadium.

The Huskies chased the game after a 10th minute tally for the Bulldogs on a corner kick opportunity.

UConn was able to create a bevy of opportunities, outshooting Butler 17-7, but the breaks weren't going the Huskies way.

Chioma Okafor had a one-on-one with the Butler keeper in the 56th minute but the goalie was able to make a nice save to stymie the chance.

In the 66th minute, Alayna Taylor had a chance inside the box but her shot was parried over the bar.

In the ensuing corner kick, the Huskies had two golden opportunities with Okafor having her shot saved by a Bulldogs player on the goal line and then senior Joyce Ryder rang a ball off the crossbar.

After those many attempts to find an equalizer, Butler wasa able to survive and capitalize with a goal in the 73rd minute to give the Bulldogs a two-goal advantage.

The Huskies responded in the 85th minute on a set piece. Anna Carson served a ball into the box that found the head of Maddie Fried and the senior from Monroe, Conn. headed it home to bring the deficit to 2-1.

UConn was unable to find an equalizer in the final five minutes though and dropped a one-goal decision.

Next up, the Huskies play their final road game of the regular season at Villanova on Sunday, October 20 at 1 p.m.
