STORRS – The UConn men's basketball team will honor program legend Ben Gordon on Feb. 7 with an official induction in to the Huskies of Honor. Gordon will officially take his spot on the wall in Gampel Pavilion at halftime of UConn's Friday night showdown with St. John's.
Gordon will become the 23rd individual player to join the Huskies of Honor, which also includes three head coaches, an administrator and two full teams. He was honored last season with the induction of the 2003-04 national title team. He joins a pair of former teammates in UConn's highest internal honor, with Caron Butler and Emeka Okafor also on the wall.
Gordon played at Connecticut from 2001-04, culminating with the 2004 National Championship before being selected No. 3 overall in the 2004 NBA Draft. He scored 1,795 points for the Huskies, seventh in program history, and holds UConn's all-time record with 2.32 made 3-pointers per game. He is fourth in career 3-point field goal percentage (42.3 percent) in the UConn annals and ranks in the top-10 in nearly every offensive and shooting list.
At UConn, Gordon was a three-time All-Conference pick and two-time All-BIG EAST Tournament pick. In his junior season he was the 2004 BIG EAST Tournament MVP, Most Outstanding Player of the 2004 Phoenix Regional and was on the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament team. Connecticut went 83-23 during Gordon's career and won a total of four BIG EAST titles – regular season in 2002 and 2003 and tournament in 2002 and 2004. Gordon made three NCAA Tournaments and advanced to at least the Sweet 16 in all three.
He went on to play 11 years in the NBA for the Bulls, Pistons, Hornets and Magic. During his NBA career, Gordon scored 14.9 points per game and was the 2005 Sixth Man of the Year. He averaged double-figures in nine seasons, scored 20-plus in two campaigns and played the full 82 four times.
Gordon's honor will come at halftime of the 8 p.m. tip against the Red Storm. The game will also be part of UConn and the BIG EAST's Black Fives initiative and is a $2 Miller Lite Night.
