No. 7 Huskies Host St. John’s Wednesday
STORRS, Conn. – The seventh-ranked UConn women's basketball team (22-3, 13-0 BIG EAST) hosts St. John's (12-10, 3-9) Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion. The game will air on SNY and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97-9).
One thousand fans at Wednesday's game will win a Geno Auriemma or Chris Dailey bobblehead! A limited number of scratch-off tickets will be available at the North, South and East Entrances. Fans should arrive early to get a scratch-off and see if they're a winner.
In partnership with the BIG EAST and the Black Fives Foundation, UConn will have its Black Fives game on Wednesday to honor the history of African Americans in basketball. There will be a special performance of Lift Every Voice & Sing before the national anthem.
Before the game, UConn women's basketball will honor the team's senior practice players: Jaiden Fuller, Zeke Cruz, Samuel Tarrant, Garrison Kunst, John Wagner, Alexander Urban and Kevin Brudz.
At halftime, all student-athletes who received a 3.0 GPA or higher in the fall will be honored.
Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers scored 20 points to lead UConn past Providence, 77-40, last Sunday. Graduate student Azzi Fudd scored all 17 of her points in the third quarter. UConn forced 25 Providence turnovers, and the Huskies scored 21 points off turnovers.
The Huskies are 50-21 all-time vs. St. John's. UConn beat St. John's 71-45 on Jan. 15 in Carnesecca Arena. Fudd led the Huskies with 13 points in the game.
St. John's is coming off a 57-55 loss to Marquette last Wednesday. This season, Lashae Dwyer leads the Red Storm with 12.7 points per game. Head coach Joe Tartamella is in his 13th season at St. John's.
