Huskies Open Spring Season With Exciting 4-3 Victory
Manchester, Conn. - The UConn women's tennis team opened their 2025 Championship slate with an exciting 4-3 win over Fairfield University Wednesday afternoon.
The Huskies opened the match securing wins in all doubles matches played. The duo of Olivia Wright and Maria Constantinou were strong, winning 7-6, while the duos of Isabel Petri Bere and Victoria Matos and Isabella Asenov and Chloe Lomans won 6-4 and 6-3 respectively.
"This was a great way to start our spring season, with an exciting 4-3 win over Fairfield," stated Head Coach Glenn Marshall. "We started out with a great day on all three doubles courts, with each team being challenged, but all came through with strong finishes for the win."
In the singles matchups, Maria Constantinou, Isabel Petri Bere and Chloe Lomans carried momentum gained from the exciting doubles victories and secured wins and the match for the Huskies. Freshman Chloe Lomans secured her first dual match singles win at the number five singles while Isabel Petri Bere got the win in straight sets, and Maria Constantinou clinched the match for the Huskies while competing in the number two singles.
"It was a very good match," stated Marshall. "An exciting day, and we will look to bring this momentum with us when we visit Army this coming weekend."
UP NEXT: UConn will hit the road as they travel to take on Army February 1 at 2pm.
