Huskies Set for Final Two-Game Matchup of Regular Season Ahead of Senior Day
STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team is set for the two-match showdown and will wrap up the regular season at home against Georgetown on Friday, Nov. 17 and Villanova on Saturday, Nov. 18. The two graduating seniors, Cera Powell and Karly Berkland will be honored at Friday's match.
The Huskies enter the matchup on a seven-match skid with a 7-21 overall record and 2-14 in BIG EAST action. Last time out, UConn fell in four sets to Xavier in Cincinatti, Ohio., on Sunday, Nov. 12. All season the Huskies have been led by sophomore Emma Werkmeister with a total of 311 kills and 33 assists. Last two matches against Butler and Xavier, Werkmeister rocketed double digit kills with 11 each. Also, senior Cera Powell put in a combined seven kills last weekend to add to her second-highest team high with 221 kills.
Scouting Georgetown and Villanova
Entering the matchups, the Georgetown Hoyas are 13-15 overall and 4-12 in BIG EAST play, while the Villanova Wildcats are 16-12 overall and 7-9 in conference action, respectively. Georgetown last time out fell to DePaul on Saturday, Nov. 11 in four sets. Leading the way for the Hoyas this season are Mary Grace Goyena and Peyton Wilhite with 635 combined kills along with 35 assists. For Villanova, last time out, the Wildcats finished last weekend falling in four sets to Marquette for its third-consecutive setback. Villanova has been led by Abby Harrell with a team-high 351 kills this season.
UConn will take on the final two-game home stand with the regular season finale this weekend with first serve at 6 p.m. The matches can be streamed live on FloSports.
