Huskies Shut Out Holy Cross, Sweep Season Series

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's hockey team defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders, 1-0 on Saturday night at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. The win clinched UConn home ice in the Hockey East Quarterfinals, as the Huskies move to 17-4-2 in the conference this season, and 19-9-2 overall. 

Senior goaltender Tia Chan was sensational, earning her fourth shutout of the season. Chan made 24 saves in the win.  

Senior forward Jada Habisch continued her hot streak, scoring the lone goal for the Huskies midway through the first period. Habisch has now scored five goals in her past four games, giving her 11 goals on the season. 

UConn took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission, as the Huskies led in shots, 15-7 in the first period. 

Holy Cross came out strong in the second period, but UConn was able to preserve the one goal lead through the period. Holy Cross led in shots, 11-8 in the second frame. 

UConn played excellent in the third period, holding Holy Cross to just six shots in the final 20 minutes. Their dominant play gave the Huskies their second season series sweep of a Hockey East opponent, taking all nine points from the Crusaders.

UConn returns to action on Friday, February 14 as the Huskies welcome the Providence Friars to Storrs. Puck drop is set for 6:00pm.
