UConn Seniors Earn AP All-America Honors
NEW YORK – UConn women's basketball redshirt junior Paige Bueckers was tabbed a 2024 AP All-American while seniors Aaliyah Edwards and Nika Mühl earned Honorable Mention nods, the Associated Press announced Wednesday.
Bueckers leads UConn with a career-high 21.3 points per game on an efficient .538/.424/.847 shooting split. She's expanded her game this season and is also averaging 4.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.4 blocks and 2.2 steals per game. Bueckers was selected as the BIG EAST's Player of the Year, Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
She ranks fifth nationally with 725 total points, and her field goal percentage is the second highest by a guard in Division I.
Bueckers was named the AP National Player of the Year and an AP First Team All-American in 2021. This season, she is on the Wooden Award National Ballot, a Naismith Trophy Women's Player of the Year semifinalist and an Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year finalist.
Edwards has been one of UConn's most consistent players the last couple seasons. She ranks second on the team with a career-high 17.8 points per game and leads UConn with a career-high 9.3 rebounds per game. Edwards has also grabbed a career-high 52 steals this season. She was unanimously selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team.
Edwards ranks 14th nationally with a .594 shooting percentage. The Kingston, Ontario, native led the BIG EAST with 16 double-doubles this season.
This season, she is on the Wooden Award National Ballot and a Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year finalist.
On Tuesday, Bueckers was selected as a USBWA First Team All-American while Edwards was named to the Second Team.
As UConn's primary point guard, Mühl is the Huskies' leader on offense and defense. She ranks fourth nationally with 218 assists and seventh nationally with 6.4 assists per game. Mühl is currently at 651 career assists, just eight behind Moriah Jefferson's UConn career record of 659. The Zagreb, Croatia, native holds the UConn records for single-game assists (15), single-season assists (284) and most double-digit assist games (17).
The Huskies (29-5) are a No. 3 seed in the upcoming NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. UConn will face No. 14-seed Jackson State (26-6) in the First Round this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion. The game will air on ABC.
