No. 3 Huskies to Open NCAA Tournament vs. No. 14 Jackson State
STORRS, Conn. – The third-seeded UConn women's basketball team (29-5) begins the 2024 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship in the First Round against No. 14-seed Jackson State (26-6) Saturday at 1 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion. The game will air on ABC and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97-9).
This is UConn's 35th overall and straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies have played in each NCAA Tournament beginning with the 1988-89 season. UConn is the winningest program in NCAA Tournament games with a 132-23 overall record. This is the third time in program history that UConn is a three seed.
The Huskies are 30-2 in the NCAA First Round and have won 29 straight First Round games.
Saturday's game is sold out, marking UConn's first sold-out First Round game since 2002.
Redshirt junior Paige Bueckers was on another level in the BIG EAST Tournament as she earned Most Outstanding Player honors. She averaged 27.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 4.0 blocks and 3.0 steals per game over three games. The Huskies won their 11th straight conference tournament title.
Saturday marks the return of senior Aaliyah Edwards, who missed the final two games of the BIG EAST Tournament with a broken nose. Edwards is UConn's leading rebounder with 9.3 per game and second-leading scorer with 17.8 points per game.
This is the first-ever meeting between the Huskies and Tigers.
No. 14-seed Jackson State went undefeated in SWAC play this season and won the 2024 SWAC Championship. Angel Jackson was selected as the SWAC Defensive Player of the Year while Ti'lan Boler and Miya Crump were named to the All-SWAC First Team. Head coach Tomekia Reed is in her sixth season at Jackson State. She was named SWAC Coach of the Year for the fourth time.
