Huskies Dominate on Senior Day vs. Seton Hall
MANCHESTER, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team bested Seton Hall on senior day and the final match of the regular season in a 7-0 shutout victory at Magic Lincer Tennis Club Friday night.
The Huskies close out the season with a 12-7 overall record (marking one of the best records in recent program history) and 4-3 BIG EAST record. In the match, UConn once again would get off to a strong start in doubles play securing wins at the first and second doubles positions. Then, strong and aggressive play would carry over into singles play as the Huskies rolled on to grab all six singles points including two of those wins coming in three sets.
"This was a very nice win today over Seton Hall," said tennis head coach Glenn Marshall. "With this victory, we get one of the best records for the program in recent history. We continued our strong doubles play, winning at 1 and 2 convincingly. This momentum carried us into some great starts in the singles matches. Olivia, Cameron, and Caroline had great straight set wins, to get us the needed 4 points for the win. The final 3 matches were a little more competitive, but Bella, Maria, and Isabel came through in some close matches to win them all. It was a great day all around, and we got the chance to celebrate our two wonderful seniors, Nansi and Varsha."
Junior Olivia Wright earned the clinch at first singles with a strong score of 6-3, 6-2.
