Softball Welcomes Creighton to Storrs for Three Game Series
STORRS, Conn. – UConn softball returns to Storrs for a three game series this weekend as they host the Creighton Bluejays at Burrill Family Field. Senior Day will be on Sunday afternoon, honoring nine Huskies before the start of the game at 11:30am. TICKETS
UConn comes into the weekend coming off their first series loss of the season at St. John's. So far in BIG EAST play UConn is 8-4 putting the Huskies in fourth place in the conference standings. Through 12 BIG EAST games, UConn's offense is hitting a collective .297, with 25 extra base hits, and 53 runs scored. Junior Lexi Hastings leads the Huskies hitting .531 in conference play with 17 hits and 10 runs scored. Hastings was named to the BIG EAST honor roll this week for her weekend at St. John's a week ago.
The Huskies pitching staff holds a collective 2.40 era in conference play with 88 strikeouts led by senior Payton Kinney with 33. Sophomore Hope Jenkins leads the staff with a 0.91 era in 15.1 innings pitched in conference games, holding batters at a .161 batting average. Kinney is coming off a strong weekend at St. John's as he was named to the BIG EAST honor roll for her outing over the weekend.
Creighton (24-16) comes into the weekend winners in three of their last four games. The Bluejays took the series against first place Villanova a weekend ago and currently are sitting in second place at 8-4. The Bluejays have a potent lineup as they lead the conference in batting average in BIG EAST play with four players hitting over .300. Creighton is led by senior infielder Madeline Vejvoda who was named BIG EAST Player of the Week this past week.
The series opener is set for Friday, April 12 at 7:00pm. Game two will be on Saturday, April 13 at 2:00pm. The series finale will be on Sunday, April 14 at 12:00pm. All games will be streamed on FloSoftball.
