Softball takes the series over Creighton
STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team shut out the Creighton Bluejays, 7-0 on senior day, closing out the series finale with their tenth BIG EAST win of the season.
Hallie Siems made her 21st start of the season for the Huskies, picking up her tenth win on the year. She tossed 5.0 scoreless innings recording five strikeouts, bringing her to a team high 113 strikeouts on the year.
UConn jumped out to an early lead in the first inning off the bat of Hope Jenkins. The sophomore came through with a two out single to right field, scoring Rosie Garcia from second base, putting the Huskies up 1-0.
The Huskies added three runs to their lead in the third inning. Jana Sanden delivered her 23rd run batted in of the year with a single to center field, scoring Lexi Hastings from second base. Hope Jenkins once again came through with a big hit, this time a two run home run to left field, her sixth of the season, putting UConn in the driver's seat at 4-0. Jenkins now has 30 runs batted in this season.
Meghan O'Neil came on in relief for Siems in the sixth inning, making her 31st appearance of the season. O'Neil would close out the final two innings for the Huskies, giving up a pair of hits while adding three strikeouts.
Lexi Hastings put the game out of reach for Creighton in the sixth inning, as she hit her sixth home run of the season, a three run shot to center field, making it 7-0 Huskies. Hastings now has 20 runs batted in this season.

UConn returns to action on Wednesday, April 17 as the Huskies travel to UMASS for a midweek contest. First pitch is set for 4:00pm in Amherst, Massachusetts.
