Huskies Dominate Lions in Evening Match-up

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's lacrosse team (4-4) dominated the Columbia Lions in a snowy home contest on Wednesday evening, 17-1.

The Huskies opened the game with 12 unanswered goals in the first half. Goalkeeper, Landyn White posted a shutout after making four saves. The Lions scored their one and only goal seven minutes into the third period and UConn went on to score another five goals in the second half.

Leading the offense for the Huskies was senior attacker, Abby Charron. Charron notched four goals and two assists in a career-high game. Both Lauren Barry and Eliza Bowman had hat tricks, while Susan Lafountain notched two goals herself. Grad student, Kate Shaffer, posted three assists and one goal in the defeat of the Lions today. Sophomore, Karsyn Burnash, notched her first career goal tonight, making it the second game in a row with at least one Husky scoring their first career goal.

Freshman, Abby Beran, continues to shine on defense with three caused turnovers, two ground balls, and a draw control. Madelyn George, grad student midfielder, had seven draw contols, one ground ball, and one caused turnover for the Huskies. Riley Daly followed-up with three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the win, while Amanda Moghadasi had two caused turnovers herself.

The Huskies will take to the skies as they travel to Denver on Friday for their first BIG EAST match-up of the year against the University of Denver Pioneers. Opening draw is set for 12:00 pm MST (2:00 pm EST) on Sunday, March 24th.
