Huskies Roll Past Red Foxes, 17-3

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's lacrosse team (3-4) rolled past the Marist Red Foxes in a 17-3 rout on Saturday afternoon at home in Storrs in front of a season-high 428 people.

The Huskies controlled the game on both offense and defense on a beautiful afternoon at home as they took on the Red Foxes for the third time in school history. Seven Huskies posted goals in the first half; Kate Shaffer had five, Rayea Davis had three, and Jenna Giardina, Eliza Bowman, Madelyn George, Lauren Barry, and Morgan Carter had one apiece. UConn was up 13-3 going into halftime, forcing a running clock that didn't stop for the remainder of the game.

Two Huskies notched their first-career goals in the second half, Eve McGrogan and Ava Plata, who found the back of the net twice this afternoon. Shea van den Broek rounded out the offense for UConn in the final period. McGrogan and Emma Dacey each tallied their first career assists with the Huskies.

The UConn defense held it down in the back of the field as goalkeeper, Landyn White, allowed only three goals for Marist, while posting a shutout in the third quarter. Freshman goalkeeper, Sofia Oximana, posted a shutout as well in the fourth quarter, effectively stopping the Red Foxes from tacking on another goal in the second half. Freshman, Abby Beran, had one ground ball, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers on the afternoon. Riley Daly forced two caused turnovers, had four ground balls, and three draw controls. George had four draw controls and one caused turnover to go along with her goal.

The Huskies will wrap-up their home stand on Wednesday evening as they take on the Columbia Lions at Morrone. Opening draw is scheduled for 6:00 pm and can be streamed on UConn+.
