Chloe Thomas Earns Spot at NCAA Championship

2023 NCAA Championship Information

STORRS, Conn. – UConn junior Chloe Thomas (Dundas, Ontario) earned a spot in the 2023 NCAA Championship race, getting an individual at-large bid as the field was announced this afternoon.  The 2023 NCAA Championship will be held on Saturday, November 18 at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va.

Thomas finished seventh overall in Friday's NCAA Northeast Regional Championship at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx, N.Y. while the Huskies finished sixth as a team at the event.  The junior runner captured NCAA All-Region honors for the second time in her career.

A three-time All-BIG EAST finisher, Thomas led the Huskies to a fourth-place team finish at this year's conference title race with a seventh-place finish of her own.  This fall she has posted a top-10 finish in all five races she competed in and recorded new personal bests in a 4K, 5K and 6K race.  Her time of 19:49.5 at the Arturo Barrios Invitational was her career-best and top 6K time on the year.

Thomas will be the first Husky to run at the NCAA National Championship race since the fall of 2019 when Mia Nahom represented UConn in the title race.  Prior to that, Lauren Sara ran at the NCAA title race in the fall of 2014 and she was also an individual qualifier in 2011.  Thomas is sixth Husky in program history to earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field.

UConn only NCAA team appearance came at the conclusion of the 2012 season when they finished 8th out of 31 teams.

Thomas earned her spot as an individual qualifier by being one of the top-four finishers not on a team that earned an automatic bid or an at-large bid at yesterday's Northeast Regional.

The 2023 NCAA Championship will step off at 10 am next Saturday.
