Huskies Finish Second at The Rutherford Intercollegiate

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The UConn men's golf team earned a second-place finish at the 47th Annual Rutherford Intercollegiate tournament held this weekend at Penn State University.  The Huskies had a pair of golfers finish in the top-10 of the event.

UConn shot 868 over the 54-hole, two-day event held at the par 71, 7,171-yard Penn State Blue course.  The Huskies finished 10-strokes behind tournament winner and host Penn State (293-287-278) and 12 strokes up on Florida Gulf Coast (303-293-284) in third.

The Huskies held the tournament lead after the first round on Saturday, shooting 290 as they battled high winds throughout the opening two rounds.  UConn came back that afternoon and posted a 292 to sit in second place after day one.  The Huskies finished off the weekend with a 286 to hold steady in the second spot in their final tournament before the conference championship in two weeks.  UConn fired 46 birdies on the weekend, just one off the tournament lead held by Penn State

UConn senior Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) paced the Huskies by tying for second place in the leaderboard, his best finish and third top-10 of the season.  Dallahan was two-over (73) after Saturday's first round but answered with matching 69's, his 12th and 13th rounds under par on the year, to finish two-under (211) for the tournament.  Over the 54-holes, Dallahan had 36 pars and 10 birdies.

Classmate Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.) was +3 over the weekend to finish seventh overall his second top-10 in five events this spring.  Paradise fired a 72 in each of the three rounds over the weekend to total 216.  Paradise fired 11 birdies on the weekend.

Sophomore Connor Goode (Glastonbury, Conn.), playing as an individual, and freshman Alex Heard (Boca Raton, Fla.) both finished tied for 25th overall, shooting 222.  Goode rebounded from a 78 in round one to shoot matching 72's over his final two rounds. Heard shot 73 over his first two rounds and a 76 on Sunday. Heard tied for the tournament lead with 13 birdies on the weekend.

Rounding out UConn's top-five was junior Ray Dennehy (Princeton, N.J.) who tied for 30th shooting 223 (72-78-73) and freshman Bradley Swaka (Ellington, Conn.) who tied for 48th shooting 229 (78-79-72).

The Huskies will now move their focus to preparing for the BIG EAST Championship tournament on April 27 through 29 at Riverton Pointe Golf & Country Club in Hardeesville, S.C.
