Deborah Shelby Retires After 27 Years in CLAS
Deborah Shelby, assistant dean and chief operating officer in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, retired from UConn on Oct. 1 after 27 years of dedicated service.

Shelby joined CLAS in 1998 and became a central member of the Dean’s Office, providing steady leadership through decades of growth and change. Over the years, she supported five deans and interim deans: Ross MacKinnon, Jeremy Teitelbaum, Davita Silfen-Glasberg, Juli Wade, and most recently, Ofer Harel. She also previously served as associate vice provost for academic operations for the University.
Her work in CLAS focused on personnel, space, business operations, and the day-to-day logistics that keep the College running smoothly. She played a key role in the construction and renovation of many CLAS buildings, helping to reshape the campus landscape.
Her deep institutional knowledge and strong commitment to the College’s mission helped guide CLAS through numerous transitions and challenges.
We thank Deborah for her outstanding service and wish her all the best in retirement.
