Major:
BS, Sport Management and minor in Psychology
Hometown: Stamford, Connecticut

Why did you choose UConn?

I chose UConn because I felt at home when I toured here. I immediately felt comfortable walking the campus and could see myself living here and participating in the community. Also, I had always had a passion for sports, and knowing UConn is the Basketball Capital of the World, I knew I would love it here.

What’s your major or field of study, and what drew you to it?

I am majoring in sport management with a minor in psychology. I was drawn to sport management because, growing up, sports were a way for me to connect with my family and other people, and I wanted to create an environment like that for others. Seeing the energy in Gampel Pavilion and, overall, just seeing how much sports bring people together drew me to this major. As for my psychology minor, I was always drawn to learning about how other people operate and why they do what they do, so thought it would be interesting to learn about this further.

Did you have a favorite professor or class?

I have loved all my professors within the program, but Danielle DeRosa has been one of my favorites. She is always there to help me discuss my plans and has provided me with many opportunities to meet new people and further my professional development. She is helpful regarding my education and future career and is also a great person to talk to in general. She always asks me how I’m doing and checks in with my activities and internships. She has been a huge supporter of me throughout my time here.

I have had such amazing mentors throughout my four years in the sport management program and during my internship. I feel prepared to go into the real world, and I am confident I can live independently now. &#8212 Jenna Migliaccio

What activities were you involved in as a student?

I interned with the Athletic Department here with the event and facility staff. Also, I was a morale captain for two years and an entertainment captain for HuskyTHON this past year.

What’s one thing that surprised you about UConn?

One thing that surprised me about UConn was how big it is. There are still so many buildings I haven’t been in for classes because there are so many. Also, the number of people who go here is surprising. I see a new person every day when walking to work or class.

What are your plans after graduation/receiving your degree?

After graduation, I am moving to Chicago and working for the Cubs! I will continue my role in the sport industry and work for the event operations staff at Wrigley Field. I am beyond excited to start this new chapter of my life!

How has UConn prepared you for the next chapter in life?

I have had such amazing mentors throughout my four years in the sport management program and during my internship. I feel prepared to go into the real world, and I am confident I can live independently now.

Any advice for incoming students?

One piece of advice I would give to incoming students is to embrace who they are and surround themselves with people who make them happy. There are so many amazing people at this school with so many different interests. Be open to meeting new people, join the clubs you are interested in, and just put yourself out there. I have made some of the best friends I have ever had, and I am leaving UConn with people I will be friends with for the rest of my life.

What’s one thing everyone should do during their time at UConn?

One thing everyone should do during their time at UConn is go to a basketball game at Gampel. The energy is unmatched, and I have some of my best memories of those games.

What will always make you think of UConn?

There are so many things that will make me think of UConn. Ice cream will make me think about the Dairy Bar; cows will make me think of Horsebarn Hill; basketball will make me think of winning the National Championship last year; huskies will make me think of the Jonathans, and so much more. UConn will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will bleed blue forever.
