The Leadership Legacy Experience is the University of Connecticut's most elite, immersive leadership program that helps prepare talented students for a life of commitment and contribution beyond graduation. The program recognizes and invites the University of Connecticut's most exceptional undergraduate students to participate in a one-year leadership development program starting in January and ending in December of 2025. Throughout the year, students will engage in biweekly leadership reflections that promote personal and professional development. Exercise, nutrition and weight loss all contribute to effective prevention and management of Type 2 Diabetes. Join us in exploring emerging research and best practice for improved clinical outcomes. Current exercise and nutrition recommendations as well as an overview of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical weight loss strategies are discussed.

Understanding Unfreedom Much political philosophy theorizes ideals of justice, freedom, equality. But our current world is in many ways not ideal. When we look around us, we see injustice, unfreedom, inequality. These phenomena do not merely seem temporary blips on our way toward achieving ideals. They seem, instead, relatively permanent features of our world. What might a political philosophy look like that began from those phenomena, from the shape of our existing world? Beginning from unfreedom, I argue, directs philosophical theorizing toward a) explanation of the forces that keep things as they are, and b) imagination of how things might be changed, through c) the exercise of collective agency. Political philosophy in this way becomes more closely connected to issues in moral psychology and to existential questions about the relation of human beings to each other and to the world.

The Truman Foundation will kick off the 2025 Truman Scholarship application cycle with an Open House on Wednesday, September 25 at @ 2:00 pm ET. This session, which is offered by staff at the Truman Foundation, will include a number of recent Scholars discussing their application experiences as well as an overview of the Truman Scholarship program and selection criteria. The Open House is suitable for prospective applicants who are considering seeking nomination for the Truman Scholarship this fall. Applicants must be juniors, U.S. citizens, and have a demonstrated record of leadership and service.

We are thrilled to be joined by Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson for "Nature Talks: The Ocean's Future Is Our Future"! This special event is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Branford House on UConn's Avery Point campus in Groton, featuring Dr. Johnson in conversation with The Nature Conservancy. A policy expert, writer, and co-founder of the non-profit think tank Urban Ocean Lab, Dr. Johnson is focused on solutions to the climate crisis. Her latest book, "What If We Get it Right?: Visions of Climate Futures," will be released in September. Along the beautiful and poignant backdrop of the Connecticut coastline, Dr. Johnson will explore our relationship with the ocean in conversation with TNC's Sally McGee, director of climate and strategic initiatives for TNC's Global Aquaculture Program. NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Rachael Jay will attend the conversation as moderator. People have an enormous impact on water. But oceans are affecting people too, often much more than we realize. A random infinite graph is formed by starting with a countably infinite set of vertices and then flipping a coin for each pair of vertices to determine whether or not to place an edge between those vertices. This talk is about the kinds of graphs you get by this process and it will illustrate a nifty connection between probability, graph theory, and logic.   Note: Free refreshments. 12 Step Recovery Meetings are available for UConn students every Wednesday from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM at the Cordial Storrs House. The 12 Steps are guiding principles that outline how to overcome addiction, avoid triggers and live a healthy, productive life. The meetings are a gathering space primarily for students in, or seeking, recovery from substances, but is also open to students living with other addictive behaviors. Meetings are facilitated by a student member of the UConn Recovery Community and are held both in-person and online for students from other UConn campuses.

Hello Everyone! The Addiction Medicine Interest Group is hosting a virtual NARCAN Training Event hosted by Dr. Suzanne Doyon. The event will take place virtually on Wednesday, January 17th at 6:30 p.m. This event presents a valuable opportunity to expand your knowledge on administering Naloxone, a skill applicable across various medical specialties. Moreover, Dr. Doyon will be touching on the specific pharmacokinetics and principles behind NARCAN. This will be a great opportunity to learn about opioid overdosing and the central role anyone can play when equipped with Naloxone, especially useful after NARCAN kits have become increasingly available to the public.
