Prof. Dmitri Feldman, Brown UniversityTopological heat transport The quantization of the electrical conductance is the defining property of the quantum Hall effect. Quantized electrical transport is often used for the classification of topological states of matter, but different topological orders may exhibit the same electrical conductance. Some topological systems, including Kitaev magnets, do not conduct electricity. At the same time, heat can flow in any material. We will review quantized thermal conductance in two-dimensional topological materials as well as recent experimental and theoretical advances in probing topological orders with heat transport.

AFINC is a competition that is open to 1Ls and starts their third week on campus. Teams of two compete in 2 preliminary rounds during the first week of the competition and in Octos, Quarter, Semi, and Finals rounds in the second week of the competition. This will be the Final Round which is open to the public, judged by practitioners, and will have food served.

An opening reception for "Flyway of Life" will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the gallery, located in the Branford House at the UConn Avery Point campus in Groton. Admission is free.On Oct. 1 from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Koeck will be in conversation with Jon Dodd, executive director of the Atlantic Shark Institute, with food and refreshments. The event will take place in the gallery. After the conversation at 6 p.m. in the campus auditorium, a screening of Koeck's film "Flyway of Life," will be shown, followed by a question-and-answer session.

The Museum is trying something a little different this fall, with seasonal programming timed to the rhythms of nature. This walk, led by Professor of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at UConn Dr. Susan Herrick, will be scheduled based on herp behavior and data observed during the past year of the Reptile and Amphibian Diversity Study at Allanach-Wolf Woodlands. We anticipate going out on a Saturday morning between 10am-12pm in mid-September. Those interested in participating are asked to join the email list for upcoming herp activities and we will send out an email a week before the date selected for the walk.
