- 12:00 PM1hUConn ARMS On Target Seminar SeriesThis session of On Target will feature Jaclyn Schildkraut, Executive Director of the Regional Gun Violence Research Consortium at Rockefeller Institute of Government.Lockdown Drills: From Research to Practice A Look at the Evidence About How to Prepare Students and Staff Without Causing Harm On September 26, 2024, President Biden issued an executive order that, in part, sought to develop new guidance on school drills for active shooter events. Although "active shooter drills" and "lockdown drills" both can be used to prepare to respond to these incidents and often are discussed synonymously, these terms reflect two different considerably approaches to practice. This lack of clarity, combined with a significant gap in the research on the drills' effects, considerable variability between states in respect to the number of drills conducted each year, and news stories of "drills gone wrong" have called the efficacy of all preparedness efforts into question. In this session, we will describe the differences between the approaches as well as the research that surrounds them. Specifically, results from the nation's largest study, to date, on lockdown drills will be shared to show how best to prepare students and staff with scaring them.

- 7:30 PM1hCRT presents The Old Man and The Old MoonAn imaginative sea-faring epic, encompassing apocalyptic storms, civil wars, leviathans of the deep, and cantankerous ghosts, as well as the fiercest obstacle of all: change. The Old Man and The Old Moon tells the epic tale of an old man who must abandon his duties of filling up the moon with liquid light to cross the seas in search of his missing wife. A gloriously puppet-forward musical for every generation to enjoy. "This is a story of time and tides and quests, the sort of fable on which mythologies and religions are founded … [PigPen] asks us to appreciate the finer arts of wild storytelling, while speaking to the childish mind in all of us."~The New York Times
