UConn ECE French Immersion Day and Quiz Bowl
Every November since 2000, UConn ECE hosts the annual French Immersion Day and Quiz Bowl Competition. Teams of 1-4 UConn ECE French students from across the state come together at the UConn Storrs Campus to participate in academic sessions with UConn French Department teaching assistants (TAs) in the morning and compete in a Jeopardy-style quiz in the afternoon. Academic sessions reflect the interests of the TAs and range from French literature, cinema, history, and culture to French cuisine and sports. UConn ECE French Faculty Coordinator and Associate Professor of French, Florence Marsal, moderates the afternoon quiz bowl, speaking only in French. All day long students have the opportunity to be culturally immersed in the language by practicing their speaking and pronunciation, tuning their ears to new voices speaking French, learning about French culture, and interacting with other French-speaking Connecticut high schoolers.
