No. 4 Huskies Set Record, Outpace Iowa State
UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Three Huskies scored in double figures as the No. 4 UConn women's basketball team (10-1) beat Iowa State (9-4), 101-68, in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase on Tuesday at Mohegan Sun.
UConn set a program record for made three pointers with 20 vs. the Cyclones. The Huskies shot 58.8 percent from beyond the arc.
Freshman Sarah Strong scored a personal-best 29 points with five three pointers and added nine rebounds and four assists as she was named the game's MVP.
Sophomore Ashlynn Shade scored UConn's first 14 points and finished the first quarter with 20 points on 7-7 shooting and six threes. Shade finished the game with a career-high 27 points on 10-13 shooting and finished 7-10 from three.
Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers had her third straight 20-point performance, notching 27 points on 10-15 shooting.
Strong, Shade and Bueckers combined for 83 points on 65 percent (30-46) shooting vs. Iowa State. The trio shot 65.4 percent (17-26) from three-point range.
Led by Shade's scorching start, UConn took a 36-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Huskies outscored the Cyclones 47-33 in the second half.
UConn returns to the XL Center this Saturday to host No. 7 USC (10-1) in a sold-out game at 8 p.m. on FOX. The game is a White Out and all fans attending the game are encouraged to wear WHITE.
