- Oct 412:00 PMTherapeutic YogaTherapeutic Yoga skillfully blends movement and breathwork, with a meditative focus for a full body practice that calms, nurtures, strengthens and opens one into flexibility of body and mind.Yogais protective and enlivening. Freeing you from habitual patterns of tension, this yoga creates a sense of spaciousness within, dissolves stress, strengthens core muscles, joint health, centeredness, postural alignment and groundedness, increases breath capacity and breath awareness, shifts stagnant emotions into movement and release, and is attentive to the subtle stuff of the mind, helping to free us from the driving forces of unconscious actions and thoughts. You'll practice yogic techniques that you can bring into your everyday experience for simply living a good day, and for increasing your capacity to be creatively present in your life. A yogic attitude toward self and practice is one of kindness, patience, and tenderness. We grow into our best selves in an inner atmosphere of loving care.

- Oct 412:15 PMPSLA Seminar Series: Roy DavisHost: Haiying TaoLocation: YNG 132Webex Link: s.uconn.edu/psla_seminarsRoy Davis is a plant pathologist and postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture. He received his B.S. in Biology from Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC, in 2015. Roy obtained his Ph.D. in Plant Pathology & Microbiology in 2022 from the Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. His graduate research focused on using molecular techniques to describe the epidemiology ofFusarium oxysporum f. sp.vasinfectum race 4, a devastating soilborne fungal pathogen of cotton. Since July 2022, Roy has been working on investigating the population genetics ofAlternaria brassicicola in the Everhart Lab at UConn. In addition to his research, Roy is also an adjunct professor teachingPrinciples and Conceptsof AgroecologyandEnvironmental Sustainability of Food Production in Developed Countries.Alternaria blight and head rot (ABHR) is a major disease in broccoli production that is primarily caused by theAlternaria brassicicola in the East Coast of the United States. In conventionally managed fields,A. brassicicola is typically controlled using fungicides containing azoxystrobin. In Connecticut, however, broccoli and other brassica crops are typically grown using organic agricultural practices. Under organic management, ABHR negatively affects the marketability of heads broccoli and the leaves of other brassica crops. A multistate survey was undertaken to describe the population genetics ofA. brassicicola, and to catalog any additional, related species. In addition, novel microsatellite markers were designed to investigate the amount and pattern of genetic variation to better understand the dispersal and reproductive strategies ofA. brassicicola.Join us after the seminar for our PSLA T-Shirt event (https://events.uconn.edu/plant-science-and-landscape-architecture/event/326808-psla-t-shirt-recruitment-day)!
