BOSTON - The University of Connecticut track and field men's and women's teams took part in the Collegiate Showdown in Boston Saturday at the Track at New Balance for the second straight weekend. Another smaller squad took on the Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston University at the Track and Tennis Center.
The Huskies competed hard among 12 teams at the Collegiate Showdown. UConn totaled 14 top-five results for the men and women along with three personal records and two first-place finishes. At the Battle in Beantown, the Huskies collected 20 top-five results for the men and women along with three personal records and four first-place finishes.
For the men, first year Josh Mooney again had a strong outing in the 60-meter hurdles breaking his personal best with a time of 7.99 seconds. He is now well into the top 10 list on the UConn all-time list and currently holds the third best time in the BIG EAST. Also, graduate transfer Travis Martin performed strong in the mile with a personal best time of 4:01.59. Then, sophomore Mekhi Stone zoomed by the competition in the 400 with a 48.23 time. To add, first year Noble Gongon earned a personal best in the 60m dash placing third with a time of 6.79 seconds including a 21.89 time in the 200 placing fifth. In the weight throw, sophomore Alex Krause placed second with a personal best throw of 17.42m.
For the women, senior Jasmine Barrow highlighted the day with a strong first place result of 12.58m in the triple jump. Then, senior Jenna Zydanowicz broke her personal record in the mile with a time of 4:40.08 seconds, placing third, respectively. Additionally, graduate student Patricia Mroczkowski in the high jump took a first-place leap of 1.73m. First year Anna Connors set a personal record in the 400 running a time of 56.21 placing third, respectively. To round out the night, sophomore Rachel Mason jumped a personal best in the pole vault with a first-place result of 3.72m. Following that result, junior Mallory Malz placed second with a mark of 3.57m.

The Huskies will split squads on Friday, Jan. 26 and Saturday, Jan. 27 with one squad going to New York City at the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge and the other group heading to Boston for the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic.
