Huskies Secure Tight Win Over Valdosta Sate

VALDOSTA, Ga. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team pulled off a 4-3 comeback victory over Valdosta State in Georgia for the first outdoor win of the season Monday afternoon.

The Huskies are now 8-6 overall. UConn would begin, dropping the doubles point from defeats at the second and third doubles positions. Then, as the Huskies would tie the match with a win from junior Maria Constantinou at the second singles position, Valdosta State (VSU) would get the lead back at the third singles position and then extend it to 3-1 after winning at the fourth singles point.

From there, UConn caught up with a win at fifth singles from sophomore Cameron Didion dropping the first set 6-4, to then bounce back and take the next two sets going 6-3, 6-2. UConn then tacked on the two additional singles points from junior Olivia Wright at first singles and then at sixth singles from first year Isabella Asenov.

First-year Asenov came up big for the Huskies with a come-from-behind win in the third set making that the fourth third set in the overall match on the day. Asenov would be down 4-0 in the third, and came storming back to take the set, 7-5. Asenov is now 5-5 at the sixth singles position. Also, with the second straight victory of the weekend at second singles, Constantinou extended her singles record to an impressive 7-5.
