The Connecticut Writing Project (CWP) sponsors Connecticut Student Writers (CSW), a magazine established in 1987 by the CWP to honor excellence in writing by students from kindergarten through high school. Enjoy this unique exhibition of rock music memorabilia from the archive of editor, journalist, and radio disc jockey Ken Best. This personal collection features decades worth of iconic photos, album covers, posters and promotional materials that Best has amassed while writing about music for newspapers in New Jersey and Connecticut and interviewing musicians and authors on the radio at WPKN in Bridgeport and WHUS in Storrs. Highlighted will be 50 photos of major rock 'n' roll figures by Connecticut photographer Joseph Sia, including his famous image of Jimi Hendrix at Woolsey Hall in New Haven in 1968, known as "The Shadow," from Best and Sia's 1992 book,Eight Days a Week: An Illustrated Record of Rock 'n' Roll (Pomegranate Books).

This course consists of eight online modules that the student can complete independently. An instructor will meet virtually with the students weekly to review each module topic and answer questions. Expect to spend study time reviewing each module topic outside of the review class. A student who completes all the modules, works through the quizzes, and studies the resource materials independently should be able to pass both the written and oral state exam successfully.

All workshops are held for 6 hours virtually (on Teams), and open to all (both affiliates and non-affiliates of UConn). The Yiddish Tish online luncheon discussion group is a small gathering of those interested in Yiddish from campus and the wider community. We meet monthly, read together short stories in Yiddish and translate them into English. About this EventCredit: Jennifer Schaefer Between 1966 and 1983, Argentina's military dictatorships used violence to control the population, including clandestine detention and forced disappearance. After the return to democracy, human rights groups established memorial projects and databases documenting both the disappearances and the lives of victims, including left-wing militants. Using ArcGIS, this presentation traces the movements of these militants across cities, provinces, and countries. It asks two central questions: what does geospatial analysis reveal about Cold War militancy, and what are the political and ethical stakes of analyzing memorialization projects in this way?   About the SpeakerJennifer L. Robert H. Jerry, Floyd R. Gibson Missouri Endowed Professor Emeritus of Law, University of Missouri School of Law Douglas Richmond, Senior Vice President at Lockton Companies, LLC Forty years ago, Robert Jerry, a young law professor at the University of Kansas, began writing what Matthew Bender, Inc. would publish in 1987 as the first edition of Understanding Insurance Law. One of his students at the time was Doug Richmond, who would later specialize in insurance law, manage the insurance coverage and extracontractual liability practice of a large regional law firm, become Managing Director at Aon, and today Senior Vice President with the Lockton companies in Kansas City. In 2007, Richmond became Jerry's co-author for the 4th edition of UIL, and the two of them have now collaborated on the last four editions, the most recent of which was published in the spring of 2025. Thus, for four decades, UIL has been a key resource for lawyers, judges, insurance students, and scholars seeking an understanding of various aspects of insurance law. Currently, the 800+ citations to the treatise in secondary literature include citations in approximately 575 law review articles, and it is cited in nearly 80 reported judicial opinions. In this program, Jerry and Richmond will discuss how Understanding Insurance Law came to be, with particular emphasis on how the field of insurance law has evolved in the last 40 years and how UIL has adapted to our changing field. In this training we will look at the psychological and social factors that contribute to gangs and their historical roots and evolution in America to gain an understanding of the socio-economic factors that fuel their existence. We will examine the alarming intersection between gangs and Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking (DMST), shedding light on the complex dynamics that perpetuate exploitation. We will analyze the pervasive influence of media on gang culture, from its portrayal in movies to the role of music in shaping perceptions and recruitment. Finally, we will explore effective strategies and solutions aimed at addressing gangs, encompassing community-based interventions, law enforcement approaches, and preventative measures to create safer societies. He captivated audiences with his extravagant personality and his virtuoso violin playing. An admired composer played throughout Europe, The Four Seasons contributed greatly to the composer's fame.

The University of Connecticut Symphony Orchestra is made up of approximately 75 student musicians–undergraduate and graduate. The Symphony performs two or three concerts per semester and rehearses twice a week. Repertoire includes works of the standard classical, romantic, and contemporary orchestral literature.
