Huskies Tie with Maine
STORRS, Conn. – The No. 15 ranked UConn women's hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with the Maine Black Bears on Friday night at the Toscano Family Ice Forum. Maine picked up the extra point in the shootout.
Tia Chan made her 14th start in between the pipes for the Huskies, making 18 saves in the game.
Claire Murdoch continued her torrid scoring pace to open the calendar year, as the freshman forward put the Huskies in front with under a minute left in the first period. Murdoch now has four goals through the first three games in 2025.
UConn went into the first intermission with a one goal lead as shots favored the Huskies, 9-7 in the first period.
Maine came out strong in the second period, tying the game at one in the first two minutes of the period. The Black Bears took their first lead of the game on the power player with five minutes remaining in the second period. Maine took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission, but the Huskies still managed to outshoot the Black Bears in the second period, 6-5.
Senior forward Jada Habisch scored an equalizer on the power play for the Huskies late in the third period, sending the game to overtime. Habisch had a team high six shots in the game and now has six goals this season.
Both teams had chances in the five minute overtime period to grab a game winner but both goaltenders stood strong.
The netminders continued their stellar play in the shootout, forcing seven rounds before Maine's Sam Morrison was the only skater to find the back of the net, giving the Black Bears the extra point.
