Diarmuid O'Connor Named BIG EAST Men's Field Athlete of the Week
STORRS, Conn.- UConn's Diarmuid O'Connor was recognized as the BIG EAST Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.
O'Connor took home first place in the heptathlon at the UConn Husky Challenge on December 5th and December 6th. The senior from Ireland recorded 5,567 points in the event, setting the new best mark by an Irish athlete, breaking the U23 Irish Record as well.
O'Connor claimed the top spot in three events: the 1000m run, the long jump, and the shot put throw.
UConn Track & Field is back in action on January 11th at the Suffolk Invite in Boston.
