BURLINGTON, Vt. – The No. 14 ranked UConn women's hockey team came from behind to beat the Vermont Catamounts, 3-2 in overtime on Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Junior forward Megan Woodworth scored the game winner in the overtime period.
Tia Chan earned her 16th start of the season in between the pipes for the Huskies. The senior made 31 saves in the contest, picking up her tenth win of the season.
Vermont took an early lead in the first five minutes of the game off the stick of Cecilia DesLauriers.
Vermont remained ahead, 1-0 heading into the first intermission with the Catamounts leading in shots, 12-5.
UConn tied the game at one early in the second period as junior defender Emma Eryou tallied her first goal of the season for the Huskies.
Vermont regained the lead on the power play later on in the second period, as Maddy Skelton put the Catamounts back in front, 2-1.
The Huskies once again trailed going into the intermission. The Catamounts led in shots in the second period, 14-6.
UConn found another equalizer early in the third period as sophomore forward Ashley Allard recorded a new season high, scoring her seventh goal of the season, and knotting the game up at two.
The game remained a stalemate through regulation, sending the game to overtime.
Woodworth found the game winner just two minutes into the five minute overtime period. The Berwick, Nova Scotia native now has four goals this season, and five game winning goals in her career.
