- Sep 1111:30 AMWhat is a rubrics?Audience: new faculty or faculty considering adding a rubric to their grading structure Level: Introductory Learning objectives By the end of this session, participants will be able to: 1. Identify the value and role of rubrics in measuring student learning 2. Discuss the types of rubrics, including pro's and con's of each 3. Recognize the steps in creating a rubric 4. Connect rubrics with outcomes and learning data Description Rubrics are an assessment tool that promotes consistent and reduced bias grading. helps instructors and students focus attention on the important aspects of an assignment. They are designed to help students understand what is at stake in an assignment, what to work toward, and how they will be assessed. For instructors, rubrics can serve as feedback on assignments, focus revisions, and motivate students to improve. This introductory workshop explores the elements of a rubric, methods for developing effective rubrics, and how to apply them within your courses. - Sep 1112:15 PMECOM Spotlight Series. Prof. Eiling YeeConcepts in Context: Individual Experience and the Architecture of Meaning ABSTRACT: How do we know what a lemon is, or understand the concept of joy? That is, how do we know what things are —and what kinds of information do we use to figure that out? At first glance, concepts might seem fixed: a lemon is a sour, yellow citrus fruit, and that meaning seems to stay the same across people and situations. But a growing body of research suggests otherwise. In this talk, I'll describe studies showing that conceptual representations are shaped by how we move, perceive, and interact with the world—not just through sensory and motor experience, but also through the temporal dynamics of that experience. I'll also discuss the role of context in understanding abstract concepts, and in particular, a theory and supporting behavioral evidence consistent with tradeoffs in episodic memory that allows us to learn them. Taken together, these findings support a view of concepts as dynamic and experience-dependent—shaped by where we've been, what we've done, and how long it took to do it. This has broad implications for how we communicate, learn, and reason (or fail in these things!), suggesting that conceptual meaning can systematically differ across individuals with different histories of experience.

Her research expertise is in the areas of pharmaceutical outcomes research, including pharmacoeconomic, cost-effectiveness analysis, and economic evaluation of pharmaceutical products. Dr. Izadidehkordi's research interests also include Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), pharmaceutical/healthcare modeling research, applying real-world data to clinical trials for pharmacoeconomic/pharmacoepidemiology model development, and predictive modeling of healthcare interventions. This lecture aims to introduce common methodologies for conducting cost-effectiveness analysis on healthcare interventions with a special focus on cost-effectiveness analysis of an Integrated Bio-Behavioral Primary HIV Prevention Intervention Among High-Risk People Who Use Drugs (CHRP-BB). This NIH-funded trial focuses on the population who are receiving medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and introduces simultaneous harm reduction and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) adherence enhancement strategies to mitigate HIV transmission.
